HNHS (BOOM OR DOOM)

Some of the teachers are good. Honestly your grade only depends on your teacher because it is harder to ask for help if you don't feel comfortable with you teacher. the canteen food is good for a school (would not recommend garlic bread🤢🤮). Most of the teachers are kind its just a lucky dip and you meet great new friends at this school #epicminigames

Pretty good

pretty average. you get what you see on the tin. Its kinda just a basic high school. I had a pretty good experience.

Loved it.

Did the best with what they had. Provided plenty of opportunities for students to get involved with. You could make of it what you wanted though most students didn’t take advantage. Lots of outstanding teachers but equally a fair few useless ones. Uniform rules were a bit excessive for the modern day. Overall, loved my time there.

It's pretty normal for a high school

Could be better, could be worse, senior staff is inconsistent at best, school uniform code is restrictive and some rules are unjustified with many of them making no sense. The new principal is a welcome change, teachers are pretty hit and miss with how they present themselves, and I could swear a few of the teachers plainly despise the students. For the most part, the acceptance of LGBT has increased among students and teachers, especially with its larger presence in recent years. Everything is about what you can expect from a highschool.

Review

Horrible. I am a student currently attending HNHS. The bullying and harassment is terrible and as other reviews have said, it is majorly swept under the rug. The uniforms are atrocious, along with the rules that apply for them. The senior staff is not at all reliable and as mentioned before are hopeless at matters such as harassment and bullying. Majority of the teachers do their jobs well and make coming to school just a little less dreadful; but with that being said if you are capable of going to another school, do it, HNHS has made my time at highschool horrible.

Review

As a former student of the school, I strongly believe that I wasted a good two years there. The only long term benefits I gained from attending this school were my friends. I admit, there were a few decent teachers, and they deserved more recognition. The way the school is run mostly appeals to European culture. I just hope that it will become a more inclusive environment in the future.

hnhs .

the senior staff members are absolutely appalling and this school definitely has major issues with racism and homophobia. however most of the teachers are nice and helpful which is good. the music, drama and arts department is really good but if you are coming here for sports- dont.

Don't go

This school is an absolute disaster. Senior management is appalling with the way it handles the bullying and the way the students are belittled by teachers is disgusting for being different. My recommendation is don't go to Havelock North High School

Ex student review - somewhat recommend

Was alright. But definitely could of been better. Principal said the school didn’t have a bullying problem but did, primarily in years 9-11 when I was in my last year and they were and still are very xenophobic, misogynistic, and homophobic, both my siblings and all their friends get bullied daily and they are both siblings and friends reluctant to to seek help from senior management due to it being swept under the rug constantly. Not majorly LGBTQ+ inclusive. But drama, music, and visual arts departments are absolutely amazing and are unfortunately under appreciated, under looked, and underfunded. Academics are pretty good, sports aren’t as “outstanding” as principal makes it out to be, more like alright. Some teachers are amazing and some not so much and a few absolutely terrible.

My Perspective on Havelock North High School

I've had an alright time here, and I guess the teachers are doing the best they can with the students. My only wish is for some of the teachers to be updated, as majority of them are quite elderly and have very different views on sexuality, gender and sexism - which isn't very good when the majority of students attending are lgbt+.
