The school over all is fine if you do sports and are a high achiever however, if you are not you'll probably get forgotten about. 98% of the teachers are just really bad at their jobs and often have tantrums in front of students. There are some good ones but a lot of bad and you can tell some of the teachers are racist. Honestly Karamu looks good on paper but that's about all.
Honestly it sucks. I hate going there, not only can too many of the teachers not teach properly, there are so many issues. The uniform is poorly made and designed and the school will not deal with problems between their students in fear of their reputation getting ruined. Same reason why they’ll support their extension ‘smart’ class a lot and not care about anyone else. The people in the school apparently can’t plan anything, there isn’t really anything exciting anymore, and one of the teachers indirectly called girls who happen to leave one more button of their shirts unbuttoned sl**s. Also in Winter, if students don’t know a teacher that is willing to let them in their class during break hours they have to sit outside in the freezing cold and rain because the school didn’t bother building anything at all for them.
As a recent graduate Karamu is truly a school like no other. Teachers work with you to help create the best learning environment for you. Karamu school culture is second to none, positive events like Blossom Day reinforce this a day of positivity, inclusiveness and celebration that marks the start of spring it speaks to the motto, Proudly Learning-Proudly Hastings-Proudly Karamu. Student led fundraisers and team building BBQs for different year levels. The senior management team are excellent in their handling of all issues (bullying, safety, equality etc.) to ensure that the school is a safe place to be for all students. Lastly with a modern campus and modern equipment it allows for students to get a head in life at a faster pace. To conclude Karamu is absolutely excellent and I recommend it with high esteem. I am truly honoured to be able to say I am a proud Karamu Alumni.
Karamu High School is an excellent school with a highly commendable teaching staff. Senior management prioritise the schools W.E.L.C.O.M.E values which creates a sense of inclusion across all student year levels and staff. The school is very innovative and allows for a creative/different approach to student learning, student happiness and student wellbeing. Senior students are allowed opportunities to step up and promote leadership within different areas (cultural, sport, the arts, academic, community and head students) The schools campus is very clean, modern and beautiful which is a bonus. Overall Karamu High is a very good school and I would recommend to any parents who are looking at future high schools for their child/ren to take a look at Karamu.
Druing covid last year karamu really pulled through with online learning. Most staff are amazing and are willing to attend to your needs. As a student I think information could be spread to us earlier than a day or couple days before as some need time to prepare and sort things out. Otherwise great school
I got told this school was highly recommended but after my child being there for 3 years I am thoroughly disappointed I would not recommend this school to anyone as their policy’s say no bullying but do they do anything about it no she comes home in tears. I would like to see a new better principle who actually puts a promise into action not just promises action
