I thought I should at least give a 3 or 4-star rating; however, the comments area is powerful and resonates very much. Nowadays, kids in junior high are literally messed up. These parents do not care about how their kids behave in school, and they do not allow teachers to help their kids behave. Discipline is banned in this school. It's quite funny that the people who really get bullied are the teachers and seniors. Last time, a junior kid was eating in the library and being obnoxious. I tried to warn him, and he tried to fight with me? He was so serious. Luckily, a teacher was there, and thanks to him, he kicked out this little jerk. Soon after lunch, a bunch of junior kids were waiting for me outside the library and threatening me to apologize. Like, apologize for what? It's a school, not a hood! What is wrong with these kids?
Secondly, the business sector is literally messed up by these students. They do not like business classes, never listen to the teachers, talk, chat, gossip, and even eat in class. They bother those students who want to study so much. You do not need to like business classes and teachers, but at least give them respect. At least don't interrupt the class; it's a school, not your home.
Yes, the toilet situation. I'm tired of that. In a 20-minute interval, I cannot find a clean place to go. The toilets are clogged, with mud or feces on the ceiling and floor, or the floor is drenched with spit, urine, or something else I can't identify. I even found a used condom in a toilet a year ago. Like, what? Where is the behavior and manners in this school? It is understandable not having great teachers in a public school like this. We do not expect all teachers to spend time improving your kids' grades. We are not a prestigious school, but at least teach rules and discipline. Parents are not teaching, prefects and seniors cannot teach them (would be accused of bullying), and teachers are not allowed to teach them (parents would report the teacher to the student center). Huh? I'm confused. We are not bullying or teasing your lovely, adorable little kids. We are trying to tell them what they can and cannot do. It's not your house.
Regarding uniforms, we have the poorest discipline on everything in this school except uniform rules. Not everyone has the same shape of foot, right? Some have thicker feet, some have wider feet, so please do not expect all students to wear the exact same type of shoes. It should be allowed as long as it is black sneakers and not fancy. The school is able to cope with the "well-behaved" students, but not someone who has a legitimate reason for wearing clothing that is almost exact same with the uniform. Some students easily catch cold during the colder season, and the school should acknowledge that they are not providing warmer uniform options. So, wearing warmer clothing, even if it is not a white T-shirt inside the uniform, should be allowed.
You know what? There are around twenty 1-star reviews, so to show generosity, I've decided to make it 2 stars. This is for a small proportion of good teachers who have genuinely tried to devote themselves to teaching, not for the school's administration.
Horrible school, kids don’t feel safe to go here as the bullying is rife and nothing really gets done about it. Like the New Zealand justice system everyone is just too soft on punishments hence it continues. Principal, increase your expectations of behaviour and if someone does something wrong hold them accountable to the point that they would not dare do it again! Not just a slap on the wrist. That’s the only way to stop it. Focus more on that than uniforms, wearing a couple of wrist bands or your skirt being too short is not the end of the world and it won’t lower ones grades. Prioritise safety and wellness, that will increase grades!
Terrible school there is a lot of bullying in this school, teachers don’t really care when you tell them you are being bullied they just tell you to go back to class the only time they listen to you is if you are being bullied and did not defend yourself and even then they don’t really do anything to the other student they just tell them to stop that’s it and then it continues and if you go back and tell them it’s continuing they get sick of you complaining about it so basically they do nothing that’s why it continues. They say if you feel unsafe go to the wellbeing centre, then you go to the wellbeing centre and they tell you to go back to class because “you are not really feeling unsafe are you?”. They put too much focus on school uniforms and not enough on the big problem which is bullying. There is no hall with chairs for assembly so everyone has to sit on the floor for an hour and it hurts your back and it’s bad for posture. There is no rain bell either so you have not many places to hang at lunch that’s dry. Also the bathrooms are always full of vapers and they often lock bathrooms so there’s like only one in the school to hang in and they are used by vapers. This is the worst school I have ever been to and I can’t sleep at night knowing I have to go there each day.
Apparently there is 112 genders and 200 sexualities according to this school. Very unscientific approach to educational, all about virtue signalling instead of actually teaching fundamentals
This is barely a school. Massive culture issue with toxic, racist, homophobic students. Teachers who turn a blind eye to constant bullying or join in on it themselves. Many are ineffectual, lacking knowledge or passion for their subject. Attempts to seek help or report issues often fall on deaf ears or get swept under the rug.
Also has a huge problem with substances; have heard this school be referred to as one of the main distribution hubs in the North Shore.
All in all, administration don't care or address much, all that matters is that they have their shiny decile 10 designation and their nice brochure moments for advertising.
Awesome place to get beat up if that's ya thing, free cockroaches under chairs and free pre-chewed gum under desks. Honestly made a lot of friends here, student helpers have got some potty mouths, one "aspiring prefect" who was year 12 told me that the year 11's can go "F" themselves, awesome i know. Nobody will bother you as long as you dont go anywhere with people, teachers are mid, good performing arts and some sports, better than Rangi but worse than Westlake, if your child goes to Northcross i'd send them here for college, the food isnt bad tbh but if u can go to the long bay shops u should overall its fine just dont say the wrong thing to the wrong people, make friends with the year 13's it will help a lot with where and where not to go if yk what i mean, best school in the area apart from Westlake, 4 out of 5 for me.
Long Bay College is an amazing school. The opportunities offered were endless, the staff and students were incredibly supportive, and the school felt like a whānau. I couldn’t recommend it more.
The teachers only seem to pick on people in the “troublesome” group. For example. My friend had split dye hair. One side red and one side black and a couple other students in this school had the same hair but cause her older sister was always in trouble they started picking on her and even locked her inside a classroom for the entire day without anything to do all because of her hair. This school makes me sick. They don’t care for education all they care ab is there reputation which is ruined.
This school used to be considered "good," though now with this relatively new principal ruining the entire school system, I can't rate it more that 1 stars, and even that's a push! The teachers (the good ones) helped push it up though!
Recently there has been increasing numbers of teachers leaving this school, some who have worked here for over 10 years, and from my experience directly asking the teachers, they have all blamed the principle. Now, I can't attest much towards how he may act without large groups of students being able to watch, but the sheer fact that so many TEACHERS are leaving it is easily shown as him being the issue here.
Now, I have to mention the teachers I have had during my time here in this school have been amazing, and nothing short of the best teachers in my entire time in education. There are a handful of teachers who I won't mention who have been mentioned through general chatter and rumors to be terrible teachers, some accusations being much worse (too touchy) for one or two. Though those ones aren't important to this part of my message, I would like to mention thank you to all of the teachers who genuinely try their best with what's provided, and if a better opportunity arises, please leave this school for it. This place isn't worth it.
Now, on another note, generally the school has a severe lack of seating for students, along with molding walls, and broken / genuinely disgusting bathrooms. Firstly, seating is something major to students who are attending here, I don't think sitting on rough concrete is good for posture, nor is It comfortable. Not only that, finding simple wooden tables cant be far off of the schools budget?
Second, I personally have seen mold developing on/in multiple walls throughout older classrooms they haven't bothered repairing or replacing. Not only is this a major safety hazard for students, it comes to show that they can't be bothered cleaning. I can't directly link these cases, and the terrible environment to the absence/sickness rates of students, though I can say with certainty it's far higher than any other school I have seen.
Lastly for what I mentioned, with the toilets having a severe lack of maintenance, constantly being unfit for use, and providing a genuine hazard for students (they could slip, if you understand what I reference there). The school has multiple times opted to completely close the bathrooms, something practically every student needs. And if they are to require a toilet break during class times, they delay their education walking 4-5 minutes to the other side of the school to find one.
Now, of course I was rambling there in my state of insomnia induced sleep deprivation, though I made some point that should definitely be taken into account if chosing this school.
Now, I'm not going to mention their blatantly obvious terrible change in school policies and the uniform, which feels more like a way to get more money than actual promotion; I mean, who would pay to have their child wear that if there were better options? And I already mentioned the teachers leaving, so I suppose I've gotten the bulk of this done.
This doesn't mean I'm done, there's alot more that could be said about this school, I just don't have the time.
Overall, this school is collapsing in on itself, from it's complete lack of regard for the comfort of students, to the ever increasing amount of teachers leaving. At this point the school seems to be rather desperate for teacher in fact, though that's beside the point.
Anyways, I along with pretty much everyone else balmes the principle, the last one was loved by pretty much everyone as far as I've heard, it's sad they left. Take this as you want, as far as my opinion goes, Western Springs College is superior in literally every other way. Have a good day!

This school doesn't care about its students at all. if you care about your kids DON'T send them here, it's horribly racesist, sexist and homiphobic. The faculty will turn a blind eye to pretty much anything as long as it isn't public knowledge, all the principle cares about is being a decile 10 school and grades. The counselors don't step in when it's necessary and there is a lot of bullying. Also there are like a bunch of swastikas on the walls that nobody cares about enough to get rid of.
Obviously this is not all students, but a large number at this school are severely toxic and bullying is a huge issue. These kids parents obviously have no clue what their own children get up to and how they conduct themselves. I would be so ashamed if I raised a child to be so vile and disgusting!
The process to try and help a child being bullied at school is meant to be confidential with the hope of making the child feel safe again, instead the Deans and teachers outright lie and manipulate situations. My child, who has been severely bullied and left traumatised, was made to feel like they were the one in the wrong by speaking up. Sadly they wont be the last victim to feel this way.
The Deans actual words in a discussion were: 'Oh, but I like so&so and so&so'.
How dare you tell a bullied child and their parents that you actually like their bullies. This speaks volumes as to how manipulative these bullies can be and how easily manipulated the Deans and teachers are. Truely delusional and grossly out of touch with what is going on right under their noses!
As for confidentiality - forget it! The Deans will commonly ask questions of the bullies and name their victim in front of the bullies peers in the school grounds, rather than pulling them aside. No chance of anything being kept confidential. How on earth they think this is anyway to conduct an enquiry and have a good outcome is beyond me.
My email correspondence after meetings was manipulated and my complaint was fully deleted when being cc'd further in the chain. Very underhand.
Processes that we were told were in place so that my child had a safe space or an 'out' whenever they needed it were obviously never actioned.
If you are brave enough to speak up about being bullied you will be made to feel like you are the enemy.
The 'Care and Respect' values that LBC staff hammer on about obviously don't extend both ways. Teachers are constantly yelling at students and disrupt entire classroom sessions. Most of the time this seems to occur over truely minor issues. Teaching 101 - yelling does not work! There needs to be a better approach and resolution process in place so that the rest of the students actually get an education. And yes, the office lady is extremely rude as well. She should never be in a face to face role that is for sure!
Mental health is a huge issue and LBC needs to step up and take this seriously.
There are so many other issues, drugs, fighting, vaping, spitting, sexual conduct on school grounds, the list goes on.
Please reconsider before sending your child to this school. There are truely better options out there than putting your child through this hell.
This school doesn’t even meet the definition of a school; I learnt NOTHING during my time here. The students and teachers that make up this foul excuse of an education provider are filthy, underclass, rugged people who have never been passionate about anything in their lives. Even the little things, like forcing us to spend hours sitting on the gym floor during assembly because they don’t have an auditorium, show how miserable and under-resourced this school is. I know it may sound a bit dramatic but small things like this can detract a lot from a persons education and make it feel like a chore to go to school.
I shouldn’t even have to explain myself because anyone with half a brain knows this school is pathetic. If you send your child here, you are no doubt setting them up for failure and sabotaging their future before it even begins; please do not make the same mistake as my parents. When I changed schools it was a major culture shock in the best possible way. It opened my eyes to how insubstantial Long Bay College is. I am not exaggerating when I say that the school lacks in all aspects of school life. But don’t just take it from me, there are plenty of others who have experienced this.

Students are either top achievers or thrown out like trash!!!
Unfortunately Long Bay and it’s wonderful apparent achievement rating is built upon by the students that are under achievers being “stood down” as quickly as possible with a principal that has so much love for himself and his record that is built on treating the middle to lower achievers like they are worthless. This principal literally told my son that he is: “The worst student he has ever had” he then continued to explain that his low disgusting rating comes from 16 years of teaching at different schools worldwide. That is far from the case unless this “wonderful” man has taught all his years with his eyes and ears shut and to say that to a 15 year old child is disgusting. It took this school 5 months to officially stand down my son with a month and a half of that time spent at an alternative education that his anxiety could not handle and the rest of the time told he was not to step foot on school grounds or a board meeting would be called to arrange his removal and the police would be called. They kept him on their roll so he was unable to change schools and literally kept him in limbo until they called us in for a meeting to let us know there would be a board meeting it took 3.5 months to stand him down and no correct guidelines have been stuck with especially the fact that at the age of 15 they can not stand a student down without a place secured within another school within 10 days. That secured school has said that it will consider his place in the school once he has completed other tasks and that after not being at school for so long feel he is not suitable back in main stream school. My son has been given no support or guidance at all from the school throughout. There have been so many other sad stories becoming apparent to me and all in all this school is great for high achievers but hides their appalling treatment of students that are in the middle or below. For extremely high need kids they are catered too in learning support but anyone between is worthless and treated as such. Their high rankings are built on bullying out the kids that aren’t high achievers and when I have enough time I will make sure the truth is known to the people that can put a stop to it before this abuse causes suicide. Crime rates of the youth in Auckland are high because the kids are thrown out so quickly and refused so readily by other schools they are made to feel like failures by schools that fail them.
very homophobic and racist, teachers do nothing about about this. Genuinely the most soul crushing experience of my life, worst school i’ve ever been too, so many students struggling severely with mental health due to the toxic school environment, serious drug problems.
Too supportive of the LGBT community. Focuses on equal rights and community more than academics. Lots of moderate racism in the playground. Terrible handling of drugs, everyone has drugs
