I entered OGHS earlier this year and it has been the best school i went to! As a muslim student, they have showed me nothing but kindness and i absolutely appreciate it!! I made the bestest friends i have ever made and they are really kind and value education just as much as i do! Not every student here is kind but i didn't expect all of them to be, they're just teenagers. All the teachers are kind and they are really good at their job! I learned a lot of things even tho i just enrolled in this school. There are so many opportunities here in OGHS. The sports are really fun and they dont force you to join, but they encorage you! I really recommend this school!!
Great if you want to turn out a totally average child who’s encouraged to toe the line and totally conform. Great if you’re the type of parent who’s ok with teachers on power trips, who bother to obsess over what type of socks the girls wear (in the name of life skills). Not only is OGHS *rife* with bullying, they fancy themselves as if they’re a private school. Obnoxious relic of what should be a bygone era
This school sucks in don't like it everybody is kinda boring and rude they are scary they have eyeliner they vape the maths doesn't make sense and i don't like PE it is rlly bad i have been there for 2 terms and i want to get in bed and not go ever again and sleep like a freaking sloth but they make u go attendance yudda yudda and i don't like the subjects or the people and i h888 it ty for listening don't go here save ur self ur welcome
Worst school don't go here. I was only at Oghs for 2 terms and hated it I never wanted to go girls have no respect for teachers vape skip and literally leave the school and teachers don't notice or care. I hated it the entire time I was there they only care about their most academic and sporty girls and leave everyone elese behind. I have left now thank goodness and it wasn't like they cared and barely noticed I had stopped coming and when I pulled out they hardly acknowledged it. I only came here because of my friends and they kind of went their separate ways.
1/10 worst experience.
Don't go here it is awful I was only here for 2 terms worst 2 terms ever teachers only care about overachievers everyone else is left behind. I hated coming here and wanted to leave constantly people vape skip and leave the school teachers don't notice or care. I have left now and couldn't stand it any longer and it wasn't like the school cared probably barely noticing I was there.
1/10
There is one teacher in particular the 2023 year 13 dean who constantly chases students up about attendance, its getting to the point now where in alomost every class she is pulling at least 4 students out. I understand attendance is very important but this is getting ridiculous. she is extremley rude about it and is very unforgiving. theres a joke within year 13 'moisys on the loose watch out'. it feels like when im at school i am being man hunted even if my attendance is fine she always has something to pull everyone up for unless of course youre an excellence scholar or apart of the LGBTQ community. if not best of luck to you.

As a current student at this school, I am very proud to learn here. There are a huge variety of opportunities in academic, sport and cultural activities with many leadership roles such as prefects, house leaders and whanau leaders as well as multiple student lead councils being the arts, school, wellbeing and a group working on the environment. I highly recommend learning here but it is a very big school (around 900 students) and the assemblies can get quite long. OGHS can be quite expensive with their uniforms, and stationery tends to be a bit costly but in my opinion it is worth it. My only critiques would be the school as a whole being more organised and have more communication between everyone. Overall I am proud to be a student here and I think the education is very good especially for high achievers. I hope this is helpful.
My daughter goes to Otago Girls and it is without doubt a caring, inclusive school. She had excelled academically and found her ‘tribe’ so that she can be herself and thrive.
This school is pretty amazing. It is inclusive and progressive. We are lucky in Dunedin to have safe and happy schools and OGHS is no exception. The quality of young people who leave OGHS is due to its great staff and student community.
A wonderful nurturing and caring environment. Both my daughters thrived and had so many opportunities available to them to provide new experiences. Many opportunities in and outside the classroom. Well set up for their tertiary studies!
My daughter attended Otago Girls' for her secondary schooling. The education provided, together with the vast array of extra curricular activities set her up to succeed well at tertiary level.
I attended Otago Girls a couple of years ago, and absolutely loved my time there. The school has such a supportive culture and such a huge variety of opportunities to take advantage of. I believe I have been able to succeed in further education because of the skills and learning I received there, and would highly recommend it.
An absolutely wonderful school. Excellent teaching and facilities, absolutely overwhelmed by the support and love from students and staff. The oldest secondary state public school in the country and its history is something it lives up to. You will always be looked after and cared for to aim high and achieve in whatever you wish to do. Do not let three students in 2022 change your mind about this school, it does not reflect at all how amazing Otago Girls’ is.
This place was terrible. I was a good student, academic leader and all that - and it was still the worst years I've had. Every act of progression is performative and everyone can see through the facade. Will say some individual teachers are true GOATs .
They have turned a blind eye to all the abuse and racism in the school. Every single year Muslim girls are being beaten at the school and treated as less than. They have been called the most derogatory names in the dictionary. Worst of all they keep ignoring it and acting like the school is so great.

The school doesn’t have good management and good polices regrading bullying and racism. I suggest searching Hoda’s story to know further information. #justiceforhoda !!!!
This school completely neglects its students. When students were faced with harassment due to their skin color, the school responded by doing nothing. Do not send your child here as the administration in this school will not protect the children who need it most.
JUSTICE FOR HODA. IF YOU’RE READING THIS AND DONT KNOW WHO HODA IS, SHE WAS BRUTALLY BEATEN AT THIS SCHOOL, HAD HER HIJAB TORN OFF ALONG WITH SOME OTHER MUSLIM FRIENDS. HOWEVER WHAT SETS HODA APART IS THAT AN AMBULANCE WASNT CALLED EVEN THOUGH SHE HAD A CONCUSSION. THE SCHOOL IS TRYING TO COVER THIS UP, WE WONT LET THEM
Me and my partner were going to send my step daughter to this school but after all that we have heard about the bullying and racism we are not. I am not having my step daughter be discriminated because of her race. We send our kids there to get a good education etc
