Terrible, and very inconsistent management, whether that be of teachers, or of the staff. Teachers are a hit or miss, and generally do not fulfill any personal requests of yours, especially if relevant to mental health, or actually help contribute to academic success. Instead, they usually focus on the good students, and ignore the ones they cannot control. Staff-wise, there are news about it - staff member disclosing sensitive information, not raising the pride flag... even when celebrating student academic success, there will still be mistakes resulting in messy, unorganised prizegivings with some students who either aren't supposed to be there, or student names not being enlisted thus consequently missing out on the recognition.
School spirit is practically non-existent (it has severely declined over the last few years), despite recent efforts to reignite them. Even students who first come to this school are immediately made aware of the poor environment, and are conditioned with attitudes not befitting a good education. Plenty of students bunk. Uniform regulations are lax. Homeroom teachers are useless. Bathroom and classroom environment are not good.
However the school's sports, music and art faculties are good, and all do considerably well.
Some students are actually rather good, but a shame they are attending here and are much, much better off pursuing a school that academically succeeds and recognises those talents. Do not attend this school if you don't want your potential to be wasted.
Lazy teachers that are incompetent in their jobs. There is the odd diamond but in general the teachers are poor at educating, do the bare minimum required and often less that that. We frequently get txt messages saying our child is absent from school when they are not - and have to call the school to have them correct. After happen when kids are doing half day band practice or other in-school prearranges activities and the home room teachers just don't have a clue about what's happening outside of their won little world.
Honestly would not recommend sending your child there. My friend is currently going there and they had nearly gone to jail because of that school. The teacher's there are rubbish, the counselors suck as well ok so obviously not all teachers and counselors suck there but most do. The friend of mine was influenced to do stuff such as Vaping smoking and snorting marijuana they were also influenced to steal stuff. Yes they may be hanging out with the wrong people but teachers and other staff don't do much about the vaping and marijuana problems. The bullying problems are threw the roof there the amount of kids that have gained mental health problems they might of had or not have had and those mental health problems may have worsen over the years they spend there. Oh I'm sure the police are sick of the amount of times they've been called to the school because of fights that the teachers can't handle themselves. Not every fight needs police involved I just think the teachers are either to lazy or scared to deal with the fights themselves. The uniform problems: Teachers (Male and female) want the young girls wearing skirts they think are appropriate and comfortable, when in reality the girls don't think there comfortable and they aren't comfortable wearing them. The uniform is way overpriced.
There were 3 teachers plus 1 counsellor I loved and knew actually cared about me and my learning. Minus the counsellor I appreciated, the counselling is very bad, you get brushed off and treated like a burden when it’s their job to listen to you. The rules around the uniform sucked, at one point 90% of the girls were wearing a skirt that had been given the ok from a few teachers then all of a sudden girls wearing that skirt were getting in trouble and told that it wasn’t ‘appropriate’ which made us girls feel weird because it was just a skirt and it was a lot nicer than the skirt they were trying to get us to wear. In year 9 I went to the deans for bullying and was completely ignored, I slipped notes and my mums number under the door of my assigned dean and she never contacted my mum or spoke to me. She completely ignored it all. My mental health drastically declined at school, I was going through personal stuff as well but the environment and some of the students just made it so much worse. When I have kids I won’t be sending them there, it’s sad because there is a handful of teachers and 1 counsellor who is so nice but the rest of them and the environment and how you get treated is just horrible.
Pukekohe High School is just like every other public school in the area, the teachers don't care about the students and teach the bare minimum if the students get bad grades the teachers will blame the students. Bullying is a big problem at this school and they do barely anything to help fix the problem for example my child was bullied and all they did was suspend the kid and made no effort to ensure this didn't happen again. The school itself would be quite nice but no one takes care of it. My child has often complained about going into the bathroom and it reeking of marijuna or vape. This is disgusting. The school uniform is extremely overpriced and the students just bring incorrect uniform from home because the uniform is uncomfortable.
The teachers are lazy and do the bare minimum of their job. They either have no backbone or are constantly screaming at the kids, some don't even know what they are doing. Bullying is a huge thing here and it is happening constantly, the only good thing about the school is that it is very LGBTQIA+ inclusive
The music department gets the most money and it’s honestly not even that great. It’s just loud. The teachers can’t teach and they just got rid of resubs so it’s even harder to do well with shitty teachers. There’s a few teachers who aren’t considerate at all of students mental health and say “you guys have it easy.” From my experience there’s only like 3 teachers who can actually teach and are lovely :/ The counsellors at the school aren’t helpful at all, they end up making u feel worse or pathetic. One of the counsellors don’t even care about you they just want to make you leave quickly cus they have better things to do and they “try to help” but make things worse, most students just use it as a means of bunking class. Student wise it’s a very “segregated” school. Not much school spirit and communication is non existent. The uniforms are rlly uncomfortable and unflattering. The school jacket and jumper aren’t warm but are really expensive.
the school is horrible. none of the students want to or try to learn and the teachers dont seem like they actually can teach. the teachers waste too much of their time making people correct their uniform than actually teaching. the only teachers that I know can do their job are the music and french teachers
Some teachers aren’t the best, with once my class having to resit a test as we had all worse results than from last year. There are a few amazing teachers there and if you are lucky enough to get them as your teacher you will have a great time in that class. They have a bully problem. They have an okay canteen but the prices have been rising quite a lot. They do lie a bit about what they do, they say the students are getting extension but that occurs so little that it is confusing why they even mention it. Many classes are run down with one not provided with wheel chair access.
This school has ruined relationships between students and teachers, doing many things negative to the students and taking things away. Most students resent the school entirely.
The staff aren’t great, I’ve been there for 4 years and in that amount of time there’s like 4 or 5 teachers out of the majority that I really do love as they are so kind. The priorities aren’t right, they stress about uniform when they should be stressing over how poor the teaching skills are. I went to a dean three times in year 9 about getting bullied and asked her to contact my mum so they could sort something out and she never did and never questioned me or asked if it had resolved, she just left it and acted like it didn’t exist. There was one counsellor I adored because she was amazing but she left recently, but the first counsellor I saw in year 9 dumped her personal life issues on me instead of helping me, the next one I saw in year 11 I think it was, she’d rush me to leave and ask me to leave early as she had ‘more important people to see’ so that was cool. The new principle seems really cool though :)
