The day school itself is okay, however, the boarding school is horrible. I wouldn't recommend sending you son to redwood house unless your fine with him vaping, stealing, bullying and possibly being bullied.
I'm at this school and it is alright, the work isn't very challenging if you are a gifted student in a subject. The school takes ages to actually get you more challenging work for you if you are finding something easy. Year 9's do most electives throughout the year for a term each which is horrible if you have already thought about what classes you want to do and then you have to do classes that don't interest you at all. The school has a huge focus on sports and when there is a big sports game we have to watch so the period that the sports game is in is skipped and you have to watch sports whether you like it or not.
Shit asf school, deputy rector verbally abused students and was a misogynist, left school now without encouragement. Current principal scammed all the parents at Hutt international boys school and stole thousands of dollars and now runs this school into 5 million dollar debt. No intention for learning. Previous priests raped students and so did ex principals. Overall shit school rather die than be here.
I don’t recommend this school. It has an extremely toxic culture that has been normalised and is accepted by the majority of the staff, with few exceptions. They value sporting events of academic achievement even taking whole days of class time away to instead watch sports. The school fails to challenge the students who excel in their academics and are pushed aside for the students who’d rather play on their cell phones. They fail tremendously to manage bullying and harassment as assault has also been normalised. The school offers no personal development unless you are pursuing rugby, basketball and the trades which are favoured over any other activities. Honestly the school fails as a whole, not being able to supply decent food, to challenge the students or to even support basic human decency.
