Whangarei Boys' High School is a disappointing institution that fails to meet basic educational and infrastructural standards. The facilities are in a dire state; classrooms are outdated, poorly maintained, and lack essential resources. The technology provided is often malfunctioning or obsolete, hampering students' ability to engage with modern educational tools.
The teaching staff at Whangarei Boys' High School is another major concern. Many educators appear disinterested and disengaged, with a noticeable lack of enthusiasm for teaching. The quality of instruction is inconsistent, and there seems to be a general lack of effective pedagogical strategies. The overall atmosphere in the school is uninspiring, contributing to a lack of motivation and academic rigor among students.
In summary, Whangarei Boys' High School is in desperate need of significant improvement in both its facilities and its teaching quality. The current state of the school is unacceptable and does not provide an environment conducive to effective learning or student development.
Hey, I'm a student here, I think this is a great place for learning, and the incident with karnin wasn't on purpose. The school was just trying to do something fun with their students. Also the teachers here are very nice and help you with anything that's on your mind.
This is an incompetent learning facility run by people incapable of basic decision making skills. The head outdoor education, the principals, vice principal, the BOT all need to be fired instantly. Their lack of commonsense directly ended the life of a student. Do not send your children here if you value their lives.
I'm a year 12 student and have been attending this school since year 9. This school is creepy asf there are cameras in the bathrooms and the cameras can see over certain stalls. I know this because I will be taking a piss and i can stare right into the camera. I have also been going to the toilets and teachers will walk in (even female teachers). Some teachers at this school are quite nice but some teachers treat students with little to no respect like what is the point of becoming a teacher if you dont like kids. I've hated most of my time at this school and I'm pretty sure alot of students will agree.
Been here since year 9 and i cant say how much i wish i went somewhere else. The culture of the school is horrible as there are fights very often which teachers do not handle well. The toilets are absolutely destroyed to the point teachers stand outside and choose who is allowed to go or not. The vast majority of the teachers have no clue what is going on and can barely teach. The canteens food is pretty sucky and barely ever have anything good available.
All around bad school
- Toilets are destroyed and wouldn't meet any health and safety standards
- Fights all the time
- Students have to rush and run to the busbay because bus students are not able to leave early to account for bus times and can even sometimes even miss their busses if at the bottom of the hill or if held in by an ignorant teacher
- Large wastes of time by adding useless periods (whanau class)
- Poor management of funds they can manage afford to print 2 a3 color pages for every student in the school (school reports which could just be done online) and yet they can't manage to even have toilet seats on the toilets they also wasted a large amount of money on an elevator which is not even used by anybody
- Students are forced to participate in cultural activities (Maori) which takes up a large amount of student time which could instead be spent learning instead of making the students sad and depressed (this should be optional for those who actually want to do it)
- Forced PE in early years making lives harder on those who aren't good with or cannot do sports making lots of students have a hard time mentally and possibly even physically
- Poor uniform forces students to wear long annoying scratchy socks all the time and the only pants that are able to be worn are shorts which must be worn all year round from boiling hot to freezing cold
- Lack of lunch time activities for non sporty students leaving lots of students just sitting around
School is overlooking its budget and needs to rethink its choices
